Experience life on board HMB Endeavour

Join a voyage and you will learn to sail 18th century style by our professional crew, and live just like Cook did over 240 years ago. Meet like-minded adventurers from Australia and all over the world, and take in the beauty of the high seas.

You can apply to join Endeavour as voyage crew or as a supernumerary:

Voyage crew sleep in hammocks and stand watch, handle the rigging, furl the sails, clean and steer the ship. Voyage crew must be able to climb aloft (39 metres in a harness).

Supernumerary berths are ideal for those who prefer not to do the sailing activities or who do not meet all the physical requirements (like going aloft). You may choose your level of involvement, but will be encouraged to help crew the ship where possible. You will occupy single cabins and relax in the Great Cabin, just as Cook himself would have done.

To crew Endeavour, you need:

  • A keen sense of adventure.
  • Good physical fitness (confirmed by your doctor).
  • To be aged 18 years and over.
  • Capacity to live and work like an 18th century sailor.

Endeavour is a three-watch sailing vessel, as voyage crew, you will participate in the 24-hour ship's routine under the guidance of our professional crew.

Our experienced senior crew provides lectures and talks throughout the voyage. Topics include navigation, meteorology, sail handling and tall ship sailing.

The food is hearty and spirits are high on Endeavour, especially during our traditional mess deck dinner and sod's opera (crew variety show). There's work to do, but there is always time for fun!

Previous sailing experience is not essential.
